Kett’s Books: Events and Book Groups – Kett’s Books, Market Place, Wymondham
How are we all getting on this summer? Thank you to everyone who has ventured out in this very relentless heat to visit us in the shop – we really are very grateful of your support in a time when the high street needs it more and more. Now, on to the exciting stuff!
We’ve got some wonderful events planned for August that we can’t wait to share with you:

Join us for an evening of recognising the best books that inform our appreciation of life in the East. Including author talks, a wine reception and prize giving.

The Big Book Group
Our new quarterly, informal, drop-in book group. In our first session we’ll be talking about Whale Fall by Elizabeth O’Connor – drinks and biscuits included!

BOOK GROUPS
Since its conception, Kett’s Books has been running book clubs – our very first book club started 12 years ago and is still running today! They’re a great place to meet new people and build a community with other book lovers.
What kind of books will we be reading for The Big Book Group?
AUGUST’S PICK
Whale fall is a devastating historical fiction by Elizabeth O’Connor. On an isolated island off the coast of Wales, eighteen-year-old Manod struggles to consolidate her conflicting desire of a different life elsewhere and the connection she has to her family and community. When a whale washes ashore, it catches the attention of two engmatic English anthropologists, and Manod becomes entangled in their strange relationship and motives as she acts as translator. A short, punchy novel full of intriguing characters and compelling narratives.
NOVEMBER’S PICK
Edith Holler by Edward Carey is a modern fable set in our very own city of Norwich, albeit we are taking a trip back to the early 20th century. Edith spends her days at the peculiar Holler theatre, and as her imagination runs wild while writing a play about the strange goings-on in the city, the lines between performance and reality start to blur. A wonderfully bizarre novel only made better by Carey’s signature illustrations.
